Meow Widget — Privacy Policy
Meow Widget ("the app") is an Android virtual pet made by iMango Studio ("we"): a cat you feed, pet and play with, which can also float above your other apps. This policy explains what the app handles and why.
1. Summary
Your cat lives entirely on your phone. We (iMango Studio) don't collect any personal data, and no servers of ours receive data from the app. If the app crashes, it sends a technical crash report through Google's Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the bug (section 5). It also sends anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase, such as which care actions are used and which features are switched on, so we know what to improve (section 6). You can turn either off in Settings. The app also includes Google's AdMob SDK so that the Settings screen may show a banner ad; when it does, the AdMob SDK collects some device data to show ads, as described in section 4. The main screen and the floating cat never show ads. Your cat, its name, its history and your settings stay on your phone and are never shared with AdMob or anyone else. We don't sell any data.
2. What the app accesses on your device
| Access | Why | What happens to it |
|---|---|---|
| Display over other apps | Show your cat on top of other apps, only after you turn floating mode on | Shown on screen only |
| Foreground service | Keep the floating cat on screen while you use other apps | Runs on your phone only; stops when you turn floating mode off |
| Notifications | Show the notification Android requires while the cat floats, with Hide / Show / Turn off buttons; and, only if you turn reminders on in Settings, a reminder when your cat gets hungry | Local only; the reminder is worked out and shown on your phone |
| Vibration (haptic feedback) | A short tick when you pick the floating cat up or drag it over the ✕ | Local only |
| Internet | Send crash reports (section 5) and usage statistics (section 6) and, through the Google AdMob SDK, load the banner ad on the Settings screen (section 4) | See sections 4, 5 and 6 |
| Advertising ID | Used only by the Google AdMob SDK | Sent to Google to request and measure ads, see section 4 |
You can turn off display over other apps and notifications in Android settings at any time. Without them your cat simply stays inside the app.
3. Data stored on your device
The app saves your cat's name, its mood, energy and fullness, its friendship level, when you last fed, petted and played with it, a count of these per day and a journal of care and outings for the last 30 days, and your settings (floating mode, size, position, transparency, sound, quiet hours, reminders, language). They are kept in the app's private storage on your phone and are excluded from Android's cloud backup and device transfer. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes them.
If you use Backup & restore in Settings, the app writes your cat (the data above, without your settings) to a file in a place you choose with Android's file picker, and reads it back only when you pick it to restore. The file stays where you put it; we never receive it.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The Settings screen may show a banner ad from Google AdMob, a third-party service run by Google. Ads never appear on the main screen, on the floating cat or above other apps. To serve, measure and personalize ads and to prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect:
- Device identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID
- Your IP address and the approximate location derived from it
- Ad interactions (for example, which ads were shown or tapped) and basic device and app information
- Diagnostics, such as ad performance and crash data from the SDK
This data goes directly to Google, not to us, and is handled under Google's Privacy Policy. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent with Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices. Anywhere, you can limit personalized ads by resetting or deleting your advertising ID in Android settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Settings → Google → Ads, depending on your phone). If your phone is offline or no ad is available, no banner is shown.
5. Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
When the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics, a service run by Google for us, sends a crash report so we can find and fix the problem. A report contains:
- The technical details of the crash (which code failed, the app version)
- Your phone's model, Android version, available memory and storage, and whether it is rooted
- A random identifier for this installation of the app, not linked to you or to your advertising ID
Reports never include your cat, its name, its history or your settings. They are kept by Firebase for 90 days and used only to fix bugs; see Privacy and Security in Firebase. To stop sending them, turn off Settings → Send crash reports.
6. Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)
To learn which parts of the app people use, the app sends usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase, a service run by Google for us. They contain:
- Care actions: feed, pet or play, and whether the cat accepted or why not (for example, still full or asleep)
- Friendship levels reached and finishing the first-launch screens
- Which features are switched on: floating mode, reminders, quiet hours, sound
- App use measured by Firebase itself: app opens, how long the app is used, screens viewed, app version, your phone's model, Android version, language and country (from the IP address, which is not stored)
- A random identifier for this installation of the app
They never include your cat's name, anything you type, an account or your advertising ID, and they are not used for ads or ad personalization. We see them only as totals in Google Analytics, which keeps them for 12 months; see Privacy and Security in Firebase. To stop sending them, turn off Settings → Send usage statistics.
7. Children
Meow Widget does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app collects nothing that identifies the person using it; crash reports (section 5) are technical only, usage statistics (section 6) are anonymous, and ads, where shown, come from Google AdMob as described in section 4. There are no purchases, no chat and no way to share data with other people.
